The LSE German Society has offered BGA members the opportunity to join the following online event:

On Monday 7 December at 6pm GMT, Tom Tugendhat MP, David McAllister MEP and Lord Kinnoull will discuss the future of the relationship between the United Kingdom and European Union. The discussion will be chaired by Professor Cheryl Schonhardt-Bailey FBA.

Tom Tugendhat is Chair of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee. He focusses on Britain’s foreign policy priorities after Brexit and the rising influence of China. Since 2015, he represents Tonbridge, Edenbridge and Malling as Member of Parliament. Before becoming an MP, Tom Tugendhat was in the British Army and served in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

David McAllister is Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and Chair of the European Parliament’s UK Coordination Group which monitors the EU-UK negotiations. He also serves as Vice President of the European People’s Party. Previously, he held office as Minister-President of Lower Saxony. David McAllister holds British and German citizenships.

Lord Kinnoull is a Non-affiliated Excepted Hereditary peer who has sat under this title in the Lords since February 2015. He is Chair of the House of Lords European Union Committee.

Professor Cheryl Schonhardt-Bailey is Head of the Department of Government at the London School of Economics and Fellow of the British Academy. Her areas of research comprise the politics of trade and finance as well as parliamentary committees.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions of the speakers after the discussion.
